Let Your Light Shine This Advent

Jesus loves us more than we can possibly imagine. Sometimes it’s hard to appreciate God’s love because we live in a broken world, and that brokenness inhibits us from dwelling in that love all of the time. Yet, that doesn’t diminish God’s love for all of us- Remember, God is pure, uninhibited love.

Jesus came to reveal and model that love to the world. He came at a time and place where that love was desperately needed. People longed for a savior. Not only did he save them, but he paid dearly to claim them as his own too. Then he left, but not without giving his children the power, and responsibility, to demonstrate that love to others until he returns again.

All of us came to believe because someone introduced us to the love of Jesus, and we’re called to pay it forward. We are his hands and feet, we are his voice, and we carry his heart in ours.

The world will experience horrible trials and tribulations before his return. It is unavoidable. His coming, and the state of the world that will precede that, is a fundamental part of our faith, even though we don’t talk about it much.

His return will bring terror to those who do not know or love him. It will bring joy and vindication to those who do. We don’t know when that day will come, and it becomes harder to believe the longer we wait. Yet, Jesus wants us to have the fullness of life, and reach others through us, as that day approaches.

Advent reminds us that Jesus came once, comes through our lives now, and will come again in glory. Be encouraged! We receive the grace to be vigilant, faithful, patient and hopeful when we allow God’s love to rule in our hearts.

Lk 21:25-28, 34-36 (Cycle C)
